In a sense, we are acting by raising our voices against hartal. But the practice would end only if more and more people ignore the call for hartal as is happending in other States.

I think we are all lazy and laid back. If going out on a Hartal day is inviting injury or damage to self and property, why risk it. Let somebody else do the protesting, we are going to enjoy the day off in peace safely inside our houses. This is the average person’s outlook on Hartals.

Yes, and anti-social elements are taking advantage of that. In Adoor (Kollam district, Kerala), a hartal was called a few days ago when officials booked some office-bearers of a cooperative for diverting goods from Onam markets. They got political support, locally!
The Minister for Cooperation G. Sudhakaran is “hoping” that the police would taken action, according to one of his statements.
